Melbourne, the capital of the state of Victoria, is set around the shores of Victoria's Port Phillip Bay and boasts a lively and cosmopolitan pulse, with chic boutiques, buzzing cafes and bars, immaculate gardens and festivals and popular sporting events. The city sits on the Yarra River, about five kilometres from the bay.
One glance at a map and it's obvious Melbourne is a planned city: a tidy, balanced grid of neatly angled streets. But beneath this sense of restraint lies a restless creative energy. Discover the work of talented local artists, architects and designers in stylish fashion boutiques, buzzing laneway cafes, hidden galleries and trendy bars.
Melbourne is a city of style and sophistication, with an inviting cosmopolitan atmosphere. It is a melting pot of cultures reflected in its microcosm of restaurants, cafes, bistros and bars. Melbourne's dining offers a dizzying spread of great cuisines, serving meals from the substantial and classic to the truly exotic.
From locally designed originals to the best of international fashion brands you'll be spoilt for choice in Melbourne's shopping precincts. Explore the inner city shopping centres and the city's myriad of arcades and laneways.
The CBD is made up of many precincts - enclaves with their own distinct flavour and charm. Some are just a lane or two, while others cover a suburb or a busy CBD street. Spend time experiencing the richness of Melbourne's different cultures from the Greek Quarter around Lonsdale Street, Italian in Lygon street, Vietnamese in Victoria Street to the Chinese culture in Chinatown and the upmarket Paris End of Collins Street.
Leave time to admire the elegant Victorian-era streetscapes, take in a film or food festival and add a visit to one of the many galleries and opulent theatres.

A Hardstyle Revolution Dance Movie created by Mark Do. Starring some of the biggest names in the shuffling scene. The dance 'Melbourne shuffle' use to be an old style dance in the late 80s, now everyone is bringing it back with 'Hardstyle.' This dancing movie showcases the so called 'Hardstyle' which intervenes with the dance "Melbourne Shuffle and running man." Furthermore it gives us the message that the freestyle dancing(Shuffling) has changed dramatically in society due to people's new style of dancing called 'hardstyle'.

[A Dedicated Melb Shuffle section quickly written by Mark(me): ]
++++++ What is the Melbourne shuffle? ++++++
It's a form of dance. The basis of the Melbourne Shuffle has traditionally been footwork performed by combining three basic steps. It is known as "shuffling" in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. The Melbourne Shuffle has no set steps but encourages individuality and imagination, incorporating dance moves from numerous styles such as miming, popping & locking, liquid and breaking. -wikipedia
++++ For ppl who wants to LEARN ++++
Anyways if ur interested or keen to learn how to shuffle, check out bigmilan tutorial videos, he teaches you the necessary steps to shuffle. He teaches u the basics such as how to Melbourne shuffle, running man, shuffle spin, hand movements and variations and i think advance moves as well. Juz search 'bigmilan' on youtube. There are also plenty of tutorials but his ones are the best. I strongly suggest dat u also learn the c-walk(crip walk, clown walk), glide(gliding) and moon walking! Why? Because it's compatible with the foot dancing or melbourne shuffle/running man.

FUNNY RANDOM FACTS ABOUT AUSTALIA:
-Their cheeses don't make me run to the toilet. Nor do their meats. I seem to have a problem with American dairy products.
-Their junk food is expensive, but their healthy food is cheap. So if chocolate is an aphrodisiac, you'll be very sexually frustrated when you can't afford a candy bar.
-They have a lot of bugs since they're not so heavy into pest control. Bring bug repellent and a bat when you come to visit. Don't be afraid to by stupid looking hats to keep the flies away either!
-If you ever go to Melbourne, don't be afraid to walk down a dark alley. You may see some very impressive art. Just watch where you step... they also seem to serve as public restrooms from time to time.
-Go to Koala Cove while driving on The Great Ocean Road! Seriously, it's cool! Oh yeah, and they REALLY do sell POO!
-Stay away from Vegemite if you didn't grow up on it. To me, it smells like fish bait and tastes like medicine.
-Many American restaurants are called something completely different, but they are there. For example, Burger King is Hungry Jacks and Red Robin is still gross.
-They don't tip because the waiters make good money, but get ready to spend more money on the meal.
-Australians don't put another shrimp on the barbie unless you want your ass kicked.
-Toilets don't really flush the other way. My dreams were crushed when I found that out.
-The holes in their toilets are about 3 times bigger than American toilet holes. That's because Australians are more full of... thinking time : )
-They drive on the left side of the road. That'll play with your head for a while, lol.
WHY WAS I SO SAD LOOKING:
I wasn't sad... I was tired from all the editing I had been doing to make this video the best I could make it. It was very hard to express the experience in the way that I felt it, through a 10 minute video.

The Great Air Race - England to Melbourne 1934
tags: Air Race London England Mildenhall Melborne Australia Sir Macpherson Robertson DeHavilland Comet C.W.A. Scott T. Campbel
autor: Bomberguy
The MacRobertson Trophy Air Race took place October, 1934 as part of the Melbourne Centenary celebrations. The idea of the race was devised by the Lord Mayor of Melbourne, and a prize fund of $75,000 was put up by Sir Macpherson Robertson, a wealthy Australian confectionery manufacturer, on the conditions that the race be named after his MacRobertson confectionery company, and that it be organised to be as safe as possible.
The race was organised by the Royal Aero Club and would run from RAF Mildenhall in East Anglia to Flemington Racecourse, Melbourne. There were 5 compulsory stops at Baghdad, Allahabad, Singapore, Darwin and Charleville, Queensland, otherwise the competitors could choose their own routes. A further 22 optional stops were provided with stocks of fuel and oil by Shell and Stanavo. The Royal Aero Club put some effort into persuading the countries along the route to improve the facilities at the stopping points.
The basic rules were: no limit to the size of aircraft or power, no limit to crew size, no pilot to join aircraft after it left England. Aircraft must carry three days' rations per crew member, floats, smoke signals and efficient instruments. There were prizes for the outright fastest aircraft, and for the best performance on a handicap formula by any aircraft finishing within 16 days.
Take off date was set at dawn (6:30) October 20, 1934. The initial field of over 60 had by then been whittled down to 20, including the 3 purpose-built de Havilland DH.88 Comet racers, two of the new generation of American all-metal passenger transports, and a mixture of earlier racers, light transports and old bombers.
First off the line, watched by a crowd of 60,000, were Jim & Amy Mollison in the Comet Black Magic, and they were early leaders in the race until forced to retire at Allahabad with engine trouble. This left the scarlet Comet Grosvenor House flown by Flight Lt. Charles Scott and Captain Tom Campbell Black well ahead of the field. This racer went on to win in a time of less than 3 days, despite flying the last stage with one engine throttled back because of an oil-pressure indicator giving a faulty low reading.
Perhaps more significantly in the development of popular long-distance air travel, the second and third places were taken by passenger transports, with the KLM Douglas DC-2 Uiver gaining a narrow advantage over Roscoe Turner's Boeing 247-D, both completing the course less than a day behind the winner.
The most dramatic part of the race was when the Uiver, hopelessly lost after becoming caught in a thunderstorm, ended up over Albury NSW. The townsfolk responded magnificently - an engineer at the power station signalled "Albury" to the plane by turning the town lights on and off, and an announcer on radio station 2CO Corowa appealed for cars to line up on the racecourse to light up a runway for the plane. The plane landed, and next morning was pulled out of the mud by locals to fly on and win the handicap section of the race. In gratitude KLM made a large donation to Albury Hospital and Alf Waugh, the Mayor of Albury, was awarded a title in Dutch nobility.
Melbourne Tram in Pakistani Style
tags: Pakistan Melbourne Karachi Tram decorated GeoPakistani
autor: GeoPakistani
The Melbourne to Karachi tram or the W-11 tram was a tram comissioned by the city of Melbourne decorated by a team of professional Pakistani vehicle decorators during the 2006 Commonwealth Games.
The name is based on the W-11 buses originally found in Karachi, Pakistan, which are a model of minibus famous for their entertainment value: decorated with lush designs and playing popular Pakistani or Indian music. Competition between buses has made these buses famous for their extravagant designs and entertainment.
As a showcase of Pakistani culture, the tram was comissioned for the Commonwealth Games, and a team of W-11 decorators were invited to decorate the tram, which toured around the city for the duration of the games, playing Bhangra and Pakistani

Melbourne Domain Tunnel truck and car crash
tags: melbourne domain tunnel crash truck car burnley citylink
autor: yt2010
This was a story on A Current Affair which was about dangerous driving. By coincidence the car that was fitted with cameras to demonstrate this was directly in front of an accident inside the Domain tunnel, so it was captured on video.
Watch the marone mercedes move into the centre lane, out of view of the truck's mirrors as he indicates to change into the same lane. Once the truckie moves left a collision is inevitable.
Higher quality capture available here: http://media.sensationcontent.com/rowan/tunnelcrash-slow.divx.avi
Note this was in Australia which is a RIGHT HAND drive country. For those of you who think there's no one in the car, look more closely. :)
